Description
Linux Mint is a GNU/Linux-based operating system that comes from Ubuntu although now is independent and it has been adopted so quickly by the community, even more than Ubuntu. In this article we are going to perform a Linux Mint 14 codename Nadia installation on a virtual machine using VirtualBox VM.
Linux Mint GNU/Linux Download
This distro can be downloaded from linuxmint.com here. For our test installation we selected MATE 64 bit distribution.
VirtualBox VM Configuration
Select New machine on VirtualBox manager and provide a Name for your VM. Choose:
- Type: Linux
- Version: Ubuntu (64 bit)
And click on Next
The recommended memory size is 512MB, we are going to select at least 1024MB to run well:
Keep defaults "Create a virtual hard drive now" and click on Create button
Select VDI and click on Next
Select Dinamically Allocated and click on Next
Modify to reach at least 10GB
Now we have our Linux Mint 14 machine ready for install, only we need to mount the distribution media DVD on the virtual DVD. Select your VM and click on Settings, go to Storage on left pane, select the DVD and find in your disk the media file. Click OK button
